London's blue plaque for the Lindleys!
William Lindley and Sir William Heerlein Lindley will be honored by prestigious English Heritage sheme called London's blue already in 2014...
Popiersie W.H.
Odsłonili go prezesi wodociągów -
Mieczysław Teodorczyk i ŁSI - Celestyn Podgórski.
Odsłonięcie włazu to jeden z elementów obchodzonych w
Łodzi od niedzieli Dni Wody. Poza tym na Piotrkowskiej przed urzędem miasta
prezentowana jest wystawa fotografii prezentujących stare łódzkie włazy
kanalizacyjne.
Właz Lindleya jest kolejną z serii klap "Historia
Łodzi włazami pisana". Planowane jest wydanie albumu z historycznymi i
najnowszymi włazami łódzkich studzienek kanalizacyjnych. To z kolei inicjatywa
społeczników i miłośników historii Łodzi, którzy od kilku miesięcy prowadzą
inwentaryzacje najciekawszych i najcenniejszych łódzkich klap. Okazuje się, że
część z nich jest dużo starsza, niż sama kanalizacja w Łodzi i pochodzi z
lokalnych instalacji, później dopiero włączonych do systemu miejskiego.

The London's blue plaques scheme, founded in 1866, is believed to be the oldest of its kind in the world and has inspired many other schemes across London, the UK and even further afield.
Run successively by the
(Royal) Society of Arts, the London County Council, the Greater London Council,
and since 1986, English Heritage, it commemorates the link between notable
figures of the past and the buildings in which they lived and worked. It is a
uniquely successful means of connecting people and place.

Die Umbenennung möchten wir am 14. November 2012 in der Zeit von 13:30 Uhr bis ca. 16:00 Uhr

On 19 January 2012, passed away Robert Hugh Lindley Egerton (1931-2012), grandson
of Robert Lindley, age 80 (for friends and family Robin).
Robin's grandfather, Robert Searles Lindley worked in Warsaw as a deputy of his brother Heerlein William Lindley in the years 1881 to 1886. Robin, minerals geologist by profession, was born September 26, 1931. Most of his adult life he spent working in the overseas colonies of Great Britain. After his marriage with Claire Brune Priedaux he settled in Godstone, Surrey, which he inherited from his parents. Since 1989 he was retired. He died at a nearby hospital, 19January 2012 at the age of 80 years. He left his wife Claire and four children.
Funeral will take place on Thursday, 2nd February, 2 p.m., at St Nicholas Church: Church Lane, Godstone,
Surrey, RH9 8BW
He was one of the first descendants of the Lindleys in Britain, with whom I
contacted in the autumn of 1994. First we exchanged letters,
later I visted Godstone. Robin remembered perfectly the family's history and
shared with me anecdotes of the prewar period. Made available to me too many
precious family photographs. Some of them were p[rinted in the book "The Lindleys.
The family of civil-engineers." Robin and Claire twice visited Warsaw, in
2000 and 2006. The second time was associated with the Lindley family-reynion
in our city. Each time Robin visited excellent facilities built by his ancestors
in Warsaw in the 19th century he radiated with pride. Last time we have
seen each other was farewell to late Marie Lindley in 2010. He was frail, but
still full of good energy.
Today I write this short note to
give Him last farewell. We shared a thread of sympathy and Godstone house was a
magical place for me, the seat of the family. I was there always a welcome
guest.
Robin in English means also a beautiful bird - in Polish Rudzik. Today Robin is as free as a bird. Maybe part of his soul travels with each of the small Rudziks. Think of it when you see One..
Our thoughts are with his loved ones.

Multimedia Warsaw Fountain Park
The next time you are in Europe, you might want to make your way over to Poland to check out the Multimedia Warsaw Fountain Park in person. This spectacular water show was recently unveiled in anticipation of being a candidate city for the European Capital of Culture 2016.
A magical performance involving light, water and sound, the Multimedia Warsaw Fountain Park will be displayed every Saturday. Water jets will be shooting impressively illuminated water to the heights of 25 meters. There will also be laser and film projections on screens of water haze.
Located right next to the Vistula river bank, the Multimedia Warsaw Fountain Park was created in the hopes that it will revitalize this area. It will operate as a regular park all other days with benches and bike paths.
The first wonderful show of music, light and water in Warsaw was held on Saturday, the 7th of May, 2011, at Podzamcze by the Old Town.
If you feel tired you may relax on the bench dedicated to William Heerlein Lindley.
