Family Jubilee – the 20th Lindley Family Reunion
Family Jubilee – the 20th Lindley Family Reunion
20 years have passed since our first meeting at the Polish Institute in Darmstadt in 2003, when Ryszard Żelichowski presented the first edition of his book The Lindleys. The history of an engineering family. In following years, the family reunion took place in Warsaw (2007), Hamburg (2008), Prague (2009), Frankfurt am Main (2012), Baku (2014, 2017) and Hamburg (2015 and 2018).
Munich 2023.
At the end of the pandemic mixed team of English and German families, started to think about a new place to meet. The choice of Munich seemed natural. One of our seniors, Ursula Caspar (1931-2023), who turned 90 in 2021, lived there, but due to the pandemic we could not visit her.Secondly, in Munich is located the famous German Museum, which William Heerlein Lindley co-organized with German engineer Oskar von Miller, sat on its Management Board and served there for many years as secretary-recorder (Schriftfüher). The Archive, which is part of the Museum, since 1920 holds materials donated by the wife of Sir William Heerlein, Lady Fanny Henrietta Lindley (1859-1931), in the form of Lindley Stiftung (Lindley Foundation). And least but not last, 170 years ago (1853) William H. Lindley was born. A nice, round date to celebrate.
Unfortunately, fate decided that Ursula Caspar left us in April this year, and before her, both her brothers Alexander and Dietrich.

specialty
After consultation with the Archive and the family, we agreed that we will continue our reunion. The best time to visit Minich, according to the Archive directors, was 12-14 September. The organization of our three-day reunion remained the responsibility of Eugen Deubner from Wiesbaden, who remains in permanent contact with the German part of the family. The English part led by Bill Lindley eagerly joined the project.

The chief-goal was accomplished. After five years we met and enjoyed the re-union and had a great time together. The highlights were: the presentation by Dr. Röschner, deputy director of the Archive, some of the treasures of the Archive, including examples of Lindleiana collection and a witty and informative tour of the Deutsches Museum guided by Alexander Lucas.
We look forward to the next family reunion, possibly in England.

Most rigorous regulations associated with the Covid-19 epidemic have been abolished, but in Ukraine, rages the grass Bloody war, caused by the aggression of Russia's leaders. We cannot fully return to an old lifestyle, but we can recall sweet memories of the good old days.

Poland and some time ago they visited, quite thoroughly, a station of filters
in Warsaw, which she described in her lemury blog.
Asia is introducing herself as follows: My name is Asia and welcome you on a lemury blog - the only blog

On May 22, 2020, in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic, Lindley Association commemorates the 120th anniversary of the death of William Lindley, the designer of Warsaw's sewage system and waterworks.
W. Lindley died on May 22, 1900, in his own home at 74 Shooters Hill Road in
London's Blackheath. He was less than 92 years old. The cause of death was
general age-related health problems and heart failure. In the last
moments of his life, he was accompanied by his eldest son, Sir William
Heerlein Lindley, continuator of his father's works, and his sister Julia.
The funeral took place three days later. He was buried at Charlton Cemetery in
London's Greenwich.

William Lindley Snr visited Warsaw only once, in
June 1876, at the invitation of Governor-General Paweł Kotzebue and the temporary
President of Warsaw, general Sokrates Starynkiewicz. After a few days of
exploration of the city, he agreed to draw up a sewage and water supply project for
Warsaw. The project was published in 1879 when William Lindley retired at the
age of 71.
The contract with the city to run this great municipal investment was signed by his son, William H. Lindley. In 1881-1917 he was the main engineer for the construction of sewage and water supply in our city.

Our Jubilee!
The Lindley Association “Societas Lindleiana” has been around for ten years!
On December 12, 2019, the Executive Board of the The Lindley
Society “Societas Lindleiana” (TL-SL)
met at a solemn meeting on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of our
organization. The National Court Register (KRS) entered us into the central
register of the Polish associations on November 23, 2009.
The application to the National Court Register for
registration was signed by a group of twenty one people, who are interested in
the history of Warsaw waterworks and sewage systems designed and built under
the supervision of four English civil engineers, William Lindley and his sons
William Heerlein, Robert Searles and Joseph.
In the past decade we have booked several significant successes. It includes, among others, the participation of our Board members in the preparation and publication in 2016 of the book Lindley plan 1912, and the placing a plaque commemorating the Lindleys at their English home in Blackheath.
In 2015, we managed to arrange invitation of Bill
(William V) Lindley to Łódź to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the water
supply, and in 2016 to Warsaw for the 130th anniversary of the water supply in
the former capital of the Polish textile industry.
In 2018, at the invitation of the organizers of the International Chopin Piano Festival in the heart of Warsaw, TL-SL became the Honorary Patron of this summer's most important cultural event in our capital.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the
establishment of TL-SL, its president Prof. Ryszard Żelichowski has prepared a
new edition of the monograph. The Lindleys. History of the engineering
family (see the next information on this).
The resolution of the Management Board adopted at the meeting today announced the convening of the General Meeting of TL-SL members in the first quarter of 2020. by-elections to its authorities and the Board's presentation for the coming years of a new program offer to a wider audience.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, the
